In this lesson we learn the future tense of irregular French verbs.
A handful of verbs have irregular stems for the future tense.
For example, the future tense endings for avoir are added to the stem aur-. For être the stem to use is ser-.
The same endings are added as per the regular verbs, it’s just the stem that needs to be noted.
Therefore, avoir is formed as follows:
French | English |
---|---|
j’aurai | I will have |
tu auras | you will have |
il aura | he will have |
elle aura | she will have |
nous aurons | we will have |
vous aurez | you will have |
ils auront | they will have |
elles auront | they will have |
Être, meanwhile, looks like this:
French | English |
---|---|
je serai | I will be |
tu seras | you will be |
il sera | he will be |
elle sera | she will be |
nous serons | we will be |
vous serez | you will be |
ils seront | they will be |
elles seront | they will be |
