Irregular Plurals

For many plurals, French simply adds an ‘s,’ just the same as in English. However, nouns ending in -eu or -au will add an ‘x.’

le cheveu
the hair
les cheveux
the hairs

When referring to hair on the head, this is always referred to in the plural. For example:

il a les cheveux brunshe has brown hair (literally: he has the brown hairs)

Un œil (‘an eye’) has a highly irregular plural. It becomes les yeux for ‘eyes.’
