Notes on Usage

Because French reflects genders in the usage of words, you’ll see that the word for ‘my’ changes from ma when it is used with feminine words to mon when it is used with masculine words.

Je vous présente…
Let me introduce you to…
ma mère.
my mother.

ma sœur.
my sister.

ma grand-mère.
my grandmother.
Elle s’appelle…
She is called…

Je vous présente…
Let me introduce you to…
mon père.
my father.

mon frère.
my brother.

mon grand-père.
my grandfather.
Il s’appelle…
He is called…
